Oh my, this sounds like something from Charles Dickens' London. What kind of group home doesn't have any accountability for the kids they house? And they don't give them shoes to keep them from running away? Doesn't sound like that's working out too well. I would think parents who didn't provide shoes for their kids would be accused of neglect. How does this group home operate? Who pays the bills? That's not how I envision my tax dollars being spent. Looks like they would welcome volunteer mentors that would lend a hand. Looks like they NEED volunteers who could show a little compassion for these kids and maybe give them something to aspire to and look forward to in their lives.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the boys are off limits because of privacy rules, but certainly the administrators of the home and the department that pays the bills are not if they are spending public funds. We treat convicted criminals with more respect than these kids. Unfortunately many of them will end up in prison if they aren't treated better in the meantime.
I admire you for following up with the kids as much as you could. Update us if you learn anything else.
Thanks for sharing this.

Hi Jan. Thank you so much for reading and commenting. I absolutely agree with everything you said. I am meeting with our state representatives in hopes of implementing positive changes in these facilities. It bothers me as well that our tax dollars aren't being appropriately and ethically used. I'm working on it and will certainly give an update as I can. Thanks again!
